I created this monochromatic hybrid Secret Garden card by CASEing a card that I saw on Stampin’ Up!’s home page. I did make some changes to it, though.
Since I don’t have the Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper, I created my ow plaid in MDS. I also printed out the greeting from Bring on the Cake on the front of my card base where I wanted the frame to be.
To create the plaid, add the Basic Gray Stripe paper as a new layer in MDS. Lower the opacity to 80% and change the color to desired color. Then stretch each side separately so that the layer is a square that covers the whole page. Copy and paste that layer. Then rotate 90 degrees and lower the opacity to 50%. Voila! Instant plaid of any shade of your choice.
Once I had my Primrose Petals plaid, I printed it out and cut out the frame with two of the Oval Collection Framelits. Then I lined up the smaller of the two Oval Collection Framelits that I had used over the greeting, with the cutting edge facing up. I tacked it in place with a small post-it note. Then I lined up the Primrose Petals card stock over the card base and tacked it in place with post-it notes, too. This way, when I ran it through the Big Shot, I could be sure that the opening was over the greeting the way I wanted it to be.
Once I was done cutting the frame opening, I glued the plaid frame to the front of the frame opening. I added some Dimensionals to the back of the frame opening and some Tombow Multipurpose Glue to the rest of the back of the piece. Then I centered it on the Whisper White cardstock with the greeting.
I then stamped the smallest flower from the Secret Garden Stamp Set with Primrose Petals Ink and cut it out with the matching Secret Garden Framelits. The buttons I have on hand don’t match my card, so I created my own with the Simply Pressed Clay and the Buttons & Blossoms Simply Pressed Clay Molds. Once the button was done drying, I then colored it with the Primrose Petals Marker. The final touch was to add a double bow created with some White Baker’s Twine. Now all I have left to do is add a greeting to the inside and send it to someone for their birthday.
Be sure to check out the Secret Garden Stamp Set along with the matching Secret Garden Framelits. This is such a great way to add dimension to your cards without having to hand-cut the different elements yourself.
If you like what you see, pass it on.
